Warner Bros made the actors in Watchmen sign a contract requiring them to come back for a sequel.

Great Silhouette's Ghost, I'm relieved that Snyder seems to have a good attitude on this, because this is exactly the kind of shenanigans which have led to Alan Moore's justified fear and hatred of Hollywood. A sequel to Watchmen? If such a thing were possible, what would it ever look like? A romantic comedy about "Sam and Sandra Hollis" settling down to raise superbrats while Veidt gets elected president of Earth?

All the bad reviews I've seen - and there seem to be many - are all on the theme of "too much like the book". So frankly, I can see an upside. If it does better than Serenity I'll be happy.
