Speaking of Germans, I'm quite proud of myself that I could translate 90% of dryadwoman's recent post, even though spreche ich nicht Deutsch. Maybe I should have done a Modern Languages degree instead of specialising in silly old English.

now i have read the thread in question, i could understand more of the post as well. i suspect that you would have found it extremely difficult to study modern languages -and then go on to teach - cos you'd have to *choose* a language to focus on, and one that wasn't esperanto!
