I still love working in a library
Aug. 19th, 2003 05:26 pmWithin the space of three days, I've picked up (in my perambulations around my place of employment) the second volume of Tony Cliff's biography of Lenin (All Power to the Soviets: 1914-1917); a book of quasi-Marxist lit-crit about sci-fi which may even prove relevant to the pestilent thesis; and an issue of an American music-crit journal entirely devoted to prog-rock, in particular Frank Zappa and Echolyn. Happy little geek that I am.
*Never heard of Echolyn? You are just so much not alone you aren't even funny. The only reason I heard of them was that they were the only 90's American prog-rock band to get picked up by a major label, on the mistaken supposition that prog was going to have a serious revival. It took them five years to get over the damage that caused.

I have a terrible temper. I often get pissed off with my nearest and dearest for the least little reason. This is because I don't direct my anger where it rightfully belongs - for example, because throwing a glass of water in my mother's face during a formal dinner is not quite the Done Thing. And it would have pissed off my long-lost aunty, who's actually reasonably cool. So, anyway, big apologies to
jessikast and
darthsappho.
From the example of my aunty, the women on my father's side of the family (who I had negligible contact with for fifteen years) are musical; obsessed with higher education; argumentative; and love cooking and other hospitable arts. It's quite comforting to realise that I do, actually come from somewhere. On the other hand, I've just learnt that they also have a history of breast cancer. Great.
My aunty bought three copies of Undinal Songs. She's officially cool.
