Technological progress goes "boink"
Aug. 12th, 2003 10:42 pmAfter a frustrating week of trying, Severina, the new technological centre of Laputain World Central, is up and running. It took a full day to figure out that the reason Outlook Express wouldn't import the address book or send mail was because the old wab32.dll file was a heap of shit. Never mind. All systems go now.
A fourfold increase in memory, a tenfold increase in processor power and a forty-fold increase in data storage is indeed nice and shiny. But the *real* bad bastard involved will be the 5.1 (surround) speakers that I've ordered. Once those are coupled with an up-to-date home studio programme (er, maybe someone will be nice for Christmas!), and I can get the MIDI synth working as well as it did on the old puter, the production possibilities of the third album are going to be incredible. For those of you skeptical about how cool surround-sound as opposed to stereo mixing can be, let's ask infamously cool musician, synth player and tech geek Wendy Carlos has to say on the subject.
Now let's just hope the nice Student Loan people will give me the $1000 I need to pay for this. And soon, or else the nice people selling me my new speakers might get suspicious...
