A comrade up here has suggested that I start a new blog specifically for publishing my thoughts on political and cultural theory. On one hand, it might be a good discipline to be slowly piecing this stuff out in the open where it can be exposed to feedback. On the other, I have no desire to argue with the kind of fuckwits who bedevil political blogs (including, at the worst extreme, actual neo-Nazis). Comments?

I think you should give it a go - if the fuckwits do descend en masse, and they prove to be more annoyance than the thing is worth, then at least you've tried.

And you can always start making the posts requiring an LJ account to reply, so at least you have some place to shoot back towards.

Also some of us would love to be able to read the output of your brain, cause usually it gets presented as a empassioned rant when one or both parties are a little sloshed.

where to find the output of my brain :)

If I get this blog together, I'll want to write it in a style where it will make sense to academic theorists of pop-culture, scifi/fantasy geeks alike and dyed-in-the-wool Bolsheviks alike. However, if you think you could handle more or less unvarnished hard-left agitprop, I am one of the editors and a major contributor to the Marxist quarterly Unity and I also write a monthly column for the Workers Charter paper (pseudonymously, because it's usually about how freakin' ridiculous my job is!)

Still not sure whether an LJ or blogger would be more appropriate. Blogger seems the outlet of choices for most of the "name" political blogs. Which may well be a good reason to steer clear of it, I dunno.

From what I've seen the major differences are:
* Blogger includes free photo storage and doesn't include "community" functions (friends list, extended profile, skinning)
* LJ has the community functions.

Personally I don't care, cause if it's an LJ I'll read it as part of my LJ friends list and if it isn't, the RSS feed will go into my blog aggregator and I'll read it there :)
