I don't like what happened to my sister
Wasn't many choices for her left
And I don't like the fact the lips that kissed her
Had hours later sentenced her to death

I don't like the knives that rearranged her
Never offering informed consent
And I don't like the sneering of the stranger
Laughing and the pain she underwent

Tell me, do you think you'd do it better?
Tell me, is your tolerance so pure?
Tell me, if it had been you that met her,
Would you have acted different? Are you sure?

Oh sister - if I had my way
It wouldn't last another day
Oh sister - let's bring this curtain down
Let's burn this filthy town
And every flame will bear the name of my sister
And every ember will remember her, my sister

And I who went and hid my face forever
And walked among the lowest of the dead
Have lost the ones who seemed so brave and clever
Will have to take the weapon in their stead

They cannot kill the one who lives no longer
And they can make her weaken even less
Their filth and fabrications make her stronger
Their nemesis knows more than they can guess

Tell me, is it you who'll stand beside her?
Tell me, will you share this fight with me?
Come and take the chance that was denied her
Light the pyre that holds her memory

Oh sister - if I had my way
It wouldn't last another day
Oh sister - let's bring this curtain down
Let's burn this filthy town
And every flame will bear the name of my sister
And every ember will remember her, my sister

Yes, I know, Leonard Cohen will be after me for the first line. Meh, he's an old guy, I bet I could fight him off.

In any case, it's becoming increasingly clear that Small Group Psychosis will be a concept album - "eleven songs about community and isolation" is the new working subtitle.

Ooooh, good stuff. And even though it is a political song, it's not A Political Song - I don't feel like I'm being beat over the head with a moral.

(The only problem is that I keep getting distracted by the fact that you don't, actually, have a sister, but I don't think that's the point. :-) )

Cool 8) Is there a tune for it? I'm currently imagining the whole thing as sung by Leonard, though.

A certain German bass-playing polar bear wrote a funky little bass loop and I've been looking for something to do with it for ages. This might be it.

Will you re-record the bass / synth / drum computer loop with your equipment, or will you use it "as is"?

Re-recording the loop would be something of a wasted effort, since you got such a great sound with it. So if you would be agreeable I would like to use it, or bits of it, as the rhythm track for a new piece - of course respecting your copyright all the way. (I'm sure Random Static Music can figure out some way to get tiny royalty cheques to Frankfurt!)

Tiny royalty cheques are cute - I'll gladly accept them. ;-)

I love the ember - remember bit.

For some reason I thought "Butlerian Jihad" immediately after reading it.

Eh, Judith Butler was quite an influence on me in my pomo/anarcho-liberal phase, so I'll take that as a compliment. :)

Well, being the geek I am, I was thinking of Jehanne Butler from the back-story of the novel Dune, the lady who's baby (IIRC) was aborted at the decision of an autodoc without her consultation and so started the Jihad against thinking machines which effectively removed computer technology from the Dune universe.

Don't worry, I have an odd mind, I suspect no-one else will think that way.

BYW I didn't know who Judith Butler was, but jumping to Wiki I can see why you would have liked her.

I have an odd mind too; didn't know the details of why it happened, though.
