I have been formally offered the awful-job-which-[livejournal.com profile] anschee-used-to-do.

In the meantime, I have had two interviews for the interesting techwriter job, and have two more coming up for a uni library job and a Disputes Tribunal answering-the-phones job. All of these jobs would pay better and be much more interesting than the awful!job.

However, awful!job is better than being rejected for all three and being an unemployed bum. I told the awful!job people I'd ring them back on Thursday.

The question is, if I haven't got a better offer by Thursday, should I take the awful job, or turn them down in the hope of something better coming along?

At least it's proof that you're employable. I'd suggest asking for more time to decide on Thurs, if necessary. When are the upcomming interviews? When would you expect to hear back?

If you've had your secondary interviews for a couple of others, you can probably expect to hear tomorrow or Thursday - and bear in mind that even if you accept the Evil Job you're not obliged to do anything about it; acceptance only means going in to pick up a copy of the contract - which you should get a couple of days to look over - and even if you sign that you're not obliged to Not Quit should something totally awesome come along.

Your advice was the best. The techwriting job turned me down (AFTER I WENT TO TWO INTERVIEW YOU BASTARDS) and still to hear back from the library job. (Also had another interview today for a District Court flunky job that I think went well). So I've accepted the awful!job, they'll mail me the contract, and unless I get better news, I'll start work there next Thursday. Ouch.

Wouldn't you be allowed to quit the awful job for something better? Here in Germany the first three to six months of an employment are considered to be a trial period, during which the employer as well as the employee can quit their contract within 24 hours, and after the trial period it's something like "at least two weeks till the end of the month", which isn't an eternity as well.
