Saturday shift in the library, came across a couple of newish looking books in our collection entitled "Refuting Evolution". These, I was amused to note, were written by a J. Sarfatti, whom I often crossed swords with when he was a PhD candidate in biology (!!!) and the chief asskicker for Jesus on my campus. Now he's working for some Creationist thinktank in Australia. I giggled, thinking that my PhD was obviously much cooler, and thought nothing about it.

Monday, and a disturbed guy comes in on issues desk and says "Who can I talk to to ask why our library has bought books on this intelligent design nonsense?" My reaction, while pointing out that of course I am a lowly prole and no-one asks my attention on such things, is that the goof who wrote them was an alumnus and the subject librarian probably felt sorry for him. Nevertheless, I gave the guy the appropriate email address so he can chase up those who think that academic freedom extends to teaching religion as if it were science.

On a related topic, it was *so* good to get a chance to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] ecoqueer, my favourite Sunday-school-teacher-against-bigotry, on Saturday.
