I go up in the world
Apr. 29th, 2004 12:38 pmThe bad news is that the mealy-mouthed wishy-washy bureaucrats who run my union nationally have won their campaign to have us give up (for this year) our campaign for a national agreement for all university staff, notwithstanding the impassioned speech I gave at the meeting yesterday.
The good news is that non-academic staff at my university have voted to reject the specific, highly insulting offer that we've been given by the corporate scum who run our uni. And I've been asked to join the negotiating team for the next round of negotiations.
It's going to be much harder to run an effective campaign if it's just one section of the staff at one university, rather than all of us all over the country. It will be harder to get staff motivated. Still, I'm going to give it my damndest. That *is* what a socialist is supposed to do, after all.
Heh. I intend to turn up to negotiating meetings in my Karl Marx T-Shirt and put the fear of God into management. :)

In other news, I've translated the Zompist Phrase Book into Esperanto. I'll post it when I can get away with it.

Date: 2004-04-28 08:46 pm (UTC)Hee. :) Can't wait to see it. My experience with Esperanto is, unfortunately, limited to Red Dwarf and our Esperanto handbook and dictionary. Which is all well and good save for the fact that I really don't do well when trying to learn languages from books... :P
