The funniest thing about the constitutional malarkey now afoot in Canada is that the three opposition parties (currently combining to overthrow the minority government) didn't realise until, like six weeks after the election that they actually had a majority if they worked together. I know Canada doesn't have "a tradition of coalitions", but surely someone must have seen coalitions working in New Zealand and elsewhere and thought "hmmm"?
If they'd brought up this idea on the day after the election, it wouldn't look as dodgy as it does now. Despite the dodgy lookingness, I fully support a government including social democrats and backed by souverainistes Québecois, although I think the NDP should have held out for more than a quarter of the cabinet posts.
