The great gig in the sky

One of the few classic PF pieces that Rick wrote on his own, above. The George Harrison of Pink Floyd, even more so - not a brilliant musician like Gilmour, not a genius wordsmith and concept-monger like Waters, a shy personality who wasn't really able to shine in a band with two major egomaniacs. The poor bugger pretty much had his confidence slapped in by that band, but was still able to contribute jaw-droppingly beautiful textures like the above, or like the intro and closing of "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". I recommend his 1997 solo album, Broken China, extremely highly - Sinéad O'Connor on vocals, Anthony Moore from Slapp Happy/Henry Cow writing the lyrics, Floydian synth textures, what more could you want?
Bloody hell. I haven't cried for a musician's death since Freddie Mercury.
