well. what an exciting day
Jun. 29th, 2005 11:50 amI had yesterday off. I had to spend all day Friday at that idiotic team building festival, so I got a half-day off. And of course I chose Tuesday, which is my 8 am start. (Hah!)
In fairness, the team building day had its moments. In the role-playing section, I got to play Evil Bitch Patron Who Wants To Make Librarian Cry. I think I unleashed a lot of frustration that way. And in the afternoon, we went to Lindale, and while we were eating our lunch we were treated to the spectacle of two happy farmyard ducks doing what I believe you young people call "the nasty". The interesting thing is that I can't tell the genders apart when it comes to white ducks, so it could well have been something for the slashheads out there.
None of the other librarians could understand why, on the farm walk, I pointed at the llamas, yelled "Look out, there are llamas!" and collapsed in helpless giggles. But they don't understand me at the best of times.
Ah, yes. So I spent yesterday morning and afternoon finalising the backing tracks for the Bluenote gig (look for surprise covers) and getting my rig set up. Then downtown - library, chemist, bookstore, and joy of joys record stores. Now I remember why I don't go to record stores very often - because I'll never be happy unless I'm walking in with a fistful of $100 notes. I mean, hell, the Van Der Graaf Generator remasters are out already! And Depeche Mode Live In Paris 2003 DVD! And... well, you get the drift. Eventually I settled for a rare Sisters of Mercy single with that great song about Eldritch's amphetamine consumption on the B-side.
I also dropped my doctoral degree certificate off to be framed, and gig posters off at Sticky Fingers. So, a productive and happy day.
...
Okay, yeah. I also happened to lose my wallet between the record store and Sticky Fingers. But it was found by a friendly bookbinder, would you believe. So no harm done.
ETA (no, not Basque terrorists): In other news, for the second time in as many months I got a grovelling phone call from a prospective employer telling me I came "a very close second" for the position and hoping I won't hold it against them. Grrr.
